CoolSculpting

Stubborn body fat that does not respond to dieting and exercise can be incredibly frustrating. For many years, liposuction was the only way to combat this type of body fat. While incredibly effective, liposuction is somewhat invasive and requires a few days of downtime afterwards. When Dr. Miguel Delgado M.D. meets with patients at his Novato Medical Spa who are looking for a non-invasive way to eliminate unwanted body fat, he often recommends CoolSculpting.

What is CoolSculpting?

CoolSculpting is a remarkable body contouring treatment that destroys body fat using very cold temperatures. During a treatment session, Dr. Delgado’s assistant, Ghazal, positions two cooling panels over the targeted area and the skin is gently lifted up between the panels where fat cells are frozen. After freezing the fat cells, the body will naturally dispose of them in the weeks following the treatment. By leveraging the body’s own disposal processes, CoolSculpting provides very natural results. The treatment is non-invasive and requires no downtime afterwards. The area usually appears red afterwards and bruising occasionally occurs, but patients are able to resume normal activities immediately.

CoolSculpting can be used to destroy fat almost anywhere on the body. The areas most frequently treated with CoolSculpting are the thighs, buttocks, abdomen, love handles, and upper arms. CoolSculpting can also be used to treat fat underneath the chin in people who are concerned about the appearance of a double chin.

Is CoolSculpting Right For Me?

CoolSculpting is an ideal treatment for people who are within a healthy weight range, but are bothered by specific bulges of body fat. It is not a weight loss solution or a treatment for obesity and should not be used to replace a healthy diet and lifestyle. Dr. Delgado typically performs CoolSculpting on people who are within 30 pounds of their ideal body weight. During your initial consultation, Dr. Delgado, along with Ghazal, will decide whether CoolSculpting is the ideal solution or if another treatment would be more appropriate for you.

CoolSculptong FAQ’s

Does CoolSculpting hurt?

Most of our patients do not describe CoolSculpting as painful. At the beginning of the session, you may experience an intense cold sensation and pressure from the cooling panels. After a few minutes, your body will adjust and you should be able to relax for the rest of the session.

How long does a CoolSculpting session take?

The exact length of a CoolSculpting session varies based upon the number of areas being treated. Most CoolSculpting sessions at our Novato Medical Spa last between 1 and 3 hours. To pass the time, patients can read a book or magazine, work on a laptop, listen to music, or take a nap.

Do the results last forever?

Once fat cells have been destroyed, they do not grow back. As such, the results of CoolSculpting are permanent as long as you maintain your normal diet and exercise routine. If you gain a substantial amount of weight, you may accumulate fat in the treatment areas once again.
